$13.3 Million Verdict v. BP Corporation

Ryan v. BP Corporation

Wrongful death case on behalf 69 year old Nancy Ryan, who lived near Defendant’s refinery and was exposed to benzene. Mrs. Ryan was diagnosed with polycythemia vera that transitioned to MDS and leukemia. This was the first of over 35 cases filed by The Walters Law Firm against the oil giant.

Confidential Settlement v. Eli Lilly & Bristol-Myers Squibb

The Walters Law Firm together with a consortium of plaintiffs lawyers successfully litigated cases on behalf of approximately 400 cancer patients against two manufacturers of chemotherapy drugs.

The drugs, Taxol and Gemzar where being diluted by a Kansas City pharmacist. The claims alleged that Defendants Eli Lilly and Bristol-Myers Squibb failed to properly inform authorities that the chemotherapy drugs were diluted.

Confidential Settlement v. Wyeth

The Walters Law Firm reached a confidential settlement with Wyeth, the maker of the diet drugs Pondimin and Redux, commonly referred to as Fen-Phen.

Lon Walters represented nearly 200 plaintiffs who opted out of the class action settlement. The lawsuits alleged heart valve damage caused by ingestion of the weight loss medication.

$35 million Settlement v. Pharmacy

The Walters Law Firm together with a consortium of plaintiffs lawyers successfully litigated injury and wrongful death cases on behalf of cancer patients against pharmacist Robert Courtney and Courtney Pharmacy.

Courtney was diluting chemotherapy and other medications from his pharmacy in Kansas City. This settlement comes on the heels of previous settlements with Eli Lilly and Bristol Myers Squibb for failing to recognize and report that their medications were being diluted.

Confidential v. Trucking Company

A confidential settlement was reached in a wrongful death action alleging improper hauling of a farm implement. The collision occurred on a two-lane road in Southern Missouri. A large combine with dual tires was being transported from a farm to the dealership.

The load was so wide that the tires hung over the center line and struck an oncoming Taurus. Both driver and passenger in the Taurus were killed.

$1.2 Million Jury Verdict - Motor Vehicle Collision

A jury in Paola, Kansas awarded clients of the firm $1.2 Million in damages for the wrongful death of a 61 year old mother and spouse, as well as personal injuries.

Lon Walters handled the trial with the help of Legal Assistant, Jennifer Sosby. The injuries and death occurred when the Plaintiffs car struck a 1,200 lb cow at night on an interstate highway.

Confidential v. Johnson & Johnson - Defective Knee Replacements

Confidential settlements were reached with Johnson & Johnson on behalf of multiple clients with defective knee joint replacements.

The cases alleged that the polyethylene components of the knee joint were improperly sterilized causing premature wearing. This wearing caused bone degradation necessitating revision surgery.

$1 Million Settlement - Medical Negligence

An 18 year old client of the firm was awarded $1 Million in settlement of a medical negligence claim. The case arose due to a medical clinic’s failure to recognize the signs and symptoms of juvenile glaucoma.

The disease progressed for nearly two years without proper treatment, which resulted in near blindness.

A combination of experts including pediatric specialists, a life care planner and a vocational economist were hired to assist in preparing the case.

Confidential v. Medtronic

Confidential settlements were recently reached with medical device corporation Medtronic. The Walters Law Firm represented diabetics who experienced malfunctioning of their insulin infusion sets.

The defect resulted in a recall of the product. All plaintiffs suffered diabetic comas known as diabetic ketoacidosis. These events occurred due to interruption of insulin through the infusion set.

$1 Million Settlement - Catheter Insertion

Medical negligence settlement on behalf of 64 year old female who suffered a stroke resulting in left-sided paralysis and speech difficulty when Swan-Ganz Catheter was inadvertently inserted into the patient’s carotid artery.

Confidential v. Johnson & Johnson - Ortho Evra Birth Control Patch

Confidential settlements were reached with Johnson & Johnson on behalf of women who used the Ortho Evra birth control patch and suffered a thromboembolic event.

Confidential v. Chemical Manufacturers

The Walters Law Firm reached settlements with multiple chemical manufacturers and/or suppliers of benzene-containing products alleging that their clients occupational exposure to said products caused his myelodysplastic syndrome (MDS), a pre-leukemia disease.

Confidential v. Merck Pharmaceutical

The Walters Law Firm reached confidential settlements with Defendant Merck on behalf of plaintiffs who suffered a heart attack or stroke due to ingestion of the anti-inflammatory drug Vioxx.

Confidential v. ConocoPhillips

The Walters Law Firm represented approximately 500 clients and reached a confidential settlement of all claims with ConocoPhillips. The clients alleged damage to their property by air particulate emissions from Defendants’ refinery.

Confidential v. Shell, et al.

Settlements on behalf of workers at a Goodyear Rubber plant with leukemia, non-hodgkin’s lymphoma and multiple myeloma alleged to have been caused by exposure to solvents containing benzene. Defendants in the case included Shell, Chevron and Citgo among others.

Confidential v. Continental Carbon Company, et al.

The Walters Law Firm represented approximately 500 clients and reached a confidential settlement of all claims with Defendants Continental Carbon Company, et al. The clients alleged damage to their property by carbon black emissions from Defendants’ Plant.

Confidential v. Stryker Howmedica

The Walters Law Firm reached confidential settlements with Stryker Howmedica on behalf of clients with defective hip replacements.
