Ryan v. BP Corporation

Wrongful death case on behalf 69 year old Nancy Ryan, who lived near Defendant’s refinery and was exposed to benzene. Mrs. Ryan was diagnosed with polycythemia vera that transitioned to MDS and leukemia. This was the first of over 35 cases filed by The Walters Law Firm against the oil giant.

The Walters Law Firm together with a consortium of plaintiffs lawyers successfully litigated injury and wrongful death cases on behalf of cancer patients against pharmacist Robert Courtney and Courtney Pharmacy.

Courtney was diluting chemotherapy and other medications from his pharmacy in Kansas City. This settlement comes on the heels of previous settlements with Eli Lilly and Bristol Myers Squibb for failing to recognize and report that their medications were being diluted.

A jury in Paola, Kansas awarded clients of the firm $1.2 Million in damages for the wrongful death of a 61 year old mother and spouse, as well as personal injuries. The injuries and death occurred when the Plaintiffs car struck a 1,200 lb cow at night on an interstate highway.

An 18 year old client of the firm was awarded $1 Million in settlement of a medical negligence claim. The case arose due to a medical clinic’s failure to recognize the signs and symptoms of juvenile glaucoma.

The disease progressed for nearly two years without proper treatment, which resulted in near blindness.

A combination of experts including pediatric specialists, a life care planner and a vocational economist were hired to assist in preparing the case.
